The distance from Texarkana (east most point in TX) to
El Paso (west most
point in TX) is *further* than the distance from El Paso to Los Angeles, CA.
My grandfather, who spent most of his life as a traveling salesman, or as the
trainer for traveling salesmen, used to tell the story of a salesman for a
Chicago-based firm who was located in El Paso. He received a telegram from the
home office asking him to visit a customer in Texarkana who was having trouble
with one of their products. He telegraphed back that they should send someone
from Chicago, since they were much closer to the
customer.
My family comes from Bonham, Fannin County, Texas, where we moved in 1836.
