I would like to know what material can
be substituted for the black slide on

Superglue a plastic jumper over the hole to allow writes if it is the
write protect your are talking about. They fit there rather nicely. I
have done this to make use of OEM distribution disks which came sans
switch. --

The jumper is a more permanant solution for a write-protect but a length
of tape wrapped over the outside of the disk over the write protect hole
is fine too.

A Berg jumper seems about the right size, and could be held in with tape
or glue. Of course, it wouldn't slide any more.

Plastic parts on floppies are horribly standard, so I just pop the button
out of another floppy and put it in. That or a bit of tape.
