Oh I'm aware of this, and never mind mission-creep (eg. ever-expanding
projects, especially when one isn't doing the actual work :-)
For the most part, analog level recovery isn't
necessary. Modern
digital data separators will recover most media, which reduces the
data rates substantially.
The issues at hand are the "analog" ones though, physics and materials.
