It's a lot easier to install/remove DD11 and similar backplanes when
the box is in the upright position. Fortunately, one rarely
reconfigures the backplanes themselves (compared to the contents of
the backplanes).
Oddly, when I rotated it I heard a strange metal
tinlking/clinking.
hmmm... took bottom off and found a metal circular key wedged in the
bottom wires. now *that* could have caused some problems!
Indeed, especially if it wedged near the -15V pins.
wonder what it's for. the 11/34 has no key.
Perhaps it went with the machine that _used to_ be next to your 11/34
in its former home?
