Actually it is quite easy to use the parallel
port of a PC as well, in a pinch. I'm looking for
a keyboard that is more in the right age group ( about
late 70's ).

This *might* help. For my transputer stand-alone workstation, I used a
serial keyboard that is basically used for PDAs. You can always use one of
those serial-to-parallel converters to hook it up.
