The CIA had devices which could read the screen contents from the emitted EMF in the late 60s according to a friend who worked for them. It is good to see the secure display is still with it. I assume that emissions from the original keyboard would have been suppressed as well. The construction looks similar to the IBM Industrial AT's but I assume with more attention to blocking emissions that could be intercepted. I think the Tempest specs are public as far as emissions, as a lot of manufacturers have to build equipment that is used in the environment where security is required. Really interesting find for someone who collects odd IBM Pc gear. One of the oddballs that one might want to watch out for is a special set of PC's that were made in Korea for supporting Hangul language for IBM mainframe 3270 operation. When we got some of the units that were supposed to connect up, they were running dos, and only in Hangul. There was a need to support the special 16 bit data over 3270 that drove the people who had to implement it nuts. But later we also used the same terminals with a different program to support Kanji language display. Again having to guess what the messages were in Hangul when installing the floppies.
