Hi!
It's mandatory to connect the printer?
Trying to access the internal drives leads in 013 error (Device not
attached), both for D80 and D40.
I've not opened it yet.
The drives spin, I can hear the noise inserting a disk.

If you don't connect the printer, you need to put a terminator on the I/O
bus.

New subject: IBM 5120 - troubles connecting the 5103 printer
Well, I connected the 5103, through its black box.
Powered the printer, started the 5110-3 and got "Elaboration error".
Stop at second screen. Full of the same char, resembling a double square
wave.
Removing the box the 5110-3 starts, but can't see the drives.
Question:
the 5103 has no leds, no buttons, only a red switch.
Powering it up, I only hear fan noise.
The printer should do something else, like moving the printer head
somehow?
Obviously, I lubricated all moving parts (a bit rusty...)

Basically, you have to put pullups to all output lines. If you want to
make it better, you should consider using combinations of pullups and
pulldowns (330/220 or something like that).
The inputs on the interface are the Bus In lines, Machine Check and
IRQ2, so the other signals are output lines.

terminator (if one is visible...)

Well, 220/300 (up/down) is the
standard SCSI bus termination.
But are those values too small? Is the current compatible with the
open-collector line driver?

Ok, these lines need to be terminated:
- Bus Out lines (-Bus Out 0..7, +Bus Out P)
- Device Address lines (+DA)

External Horizontal Drive, Printer Clock, Opcode E, Osc/4

terminator (if one is visible...)
You should definitely open the printer and clean it. Maybe you need to
reseat the cards and cable connectors. And most definitely you should
remove the foam from the covers as it begins to disintegrate.

Anyway, all the cables were properly seated.
I cleaned with compressed air and tried some procedures.
Removing connector B3 (pag. 68 of SY31-0414-3_5103PrinterMIM_Feb1979),
clears Process Check, but drives don't work.
Also removing Printer Card clears it.
Checked connections and found that B3 and B2 carry signals from A2, A3
(back of 5110-3) and lines are terminated on the Printer Card.
I found 26 white/lightblue resistor packs (maybe), usual cryptic IBM
labeling.
26 are the lines you indicated above, so everything seems to be
correct :)
Now, or the Printer Card is broken, or power supply voltages are
incorrect.
Checking voltages is trivial: if the card is dead it will be a hard
task, to repair it :(
