I know that I have a PDT-11/xxx (can it be anything else than 150?).
I will check the xxx and whether there is a floppy disk in one of the
drives ... else I have to say "me too" :-/

I think that the PDT-11/150 should boot a regular RT-11 floppy, shouldn't it? I recall
seeing one or two drivers related to the PDT-11 listed last time I did a sysgen. The RX02
on my PDP-11/03 system isn't working reliably yet, so I can't build a floppy for
you at the moment. :(
I have a pair of incomplete PDT-11 systems that I'm hoping to build at least one
working system from. I don't recall whether they're marked as PDP-11/110 or
PDT-11/130. They're the style with the card cage and a dual TU58 drive mounted inside
a VT100 case. One is missing the backplane. The other is missing a metal frame behind the
backplane and the plastic cover over the card cage. Both are missing the com port card
that plugs in to the VT100 motherboard, and neither has the card support bars. I should be
able to fabricate a com port card replacement if necessary.

Nope! The RXT11 controller is annoyingly not quite compatible with the
RXV11, even though it's generally similar. So the PDT boot disk needs
COPY/BOOT:PD RT11FB.SYS DX0: (supposing you're making it on a typical
11/03 system) since the DX: bootstrap and driver won't work. The
monitor (SJ or FB) *is* vanilla though.
I've got a triple boot block (DX:, DY:, PD:) on ftp.dbit.com, but I suppose
it's too late to go back in time and fix this silliness! :-)

Thanks for that info. I'm not knowledgeable enough about RT11 to figure

I've got a

I think the PDT-110 was the VT100 based with the .TU58s, and the PDT-150
was the RX02 based unit. The RX02 drives had a red stripe on the handle
because they were a little different than the regular RX02.
They both ran a stripped down version of RT11.

I should know better than to talk w/o looking stuff up first (I only
ever had a /150), but I believe the /110 is VT100ish and diskless/tapeless
(downline boot only), the /130 is VT100ish with the TU58s, and I'm sure the
/150 is a cube with RX01s (not 02s) and I think there was supposed to be
a single-drive variant if two SS SD drives were too luxurious for you,
but I never saw that in person.
The /130 and /150 use the same PD.SYS driver in RT-11, with help
from standardized ROM which handles the HW-specific
stuff (either a
not-quite-RXV11 at 177170, or even weirder, a not-quite-DLV11, also
at 177170).

That's the PDT-11/130. The /110 doesn't have any mass storage.
and the PDT-150

The PDT-11/150 isn't VT100-based, though you can hook up a VT-100 to it.
It's not based on either the RX01 or RX02, though it has single-sided
single-density 8-inch drives that are compatible with RX01 format and have
an interface that's sort of RX11-like, but not enough to actually be
compatible.

I haven't tried, but I wouldn't expect it to work. The floppy controller
interface is similar to an RX11, but not close enough to "just work".
Someone was kind enough to send an image for me to try.

The PDT-11/110 and 11/130 are built into a VT1xx terminal. The PDT-11/130
has a TU58 drive.
The PDT-11/150 is its own box with two full-height eight-inch floppy drives
(stacked rather than side by side), and is used with a separate terminal.

Those are in VT100-lioke cases. The 110 has no local mass storage, the
130 has TU58s IIRC. The 150 is a separate box with 8" drives.

I seem to rememebr there was a way to make a PDT11/150 boot disk using a
normal RT11 dsitribution kit. I htink there were special drivers for the
floppies and a speial boot block. Don't ask me how to do it, though.

Yes. One of the floppies in the RX01 kit is bootable on the PDT (but not
the main boot floppy, which is for an RX11/RXV11).
I htink there were special drivers for the
floppies and a speial boot block. Don't ask me how to do it, though.
COPY/BOOT:PD RT11SJ.SYS PD0: (or RT11FB.SYS)
This always annoyed me though, since my understanding is that the PDT's
I/O page is being emulated by the 8085A (which is why I/O page refs are
crazy expensive on a PDT -- like dozens of usec) so the peripherals are
all faked in firmware and it might as well have been a totally vanilla
RXV11. Well the ability to format would have been nice (it's a WDC1771,
so it could do it) but anyway the incompatibility seems needless.

I had one in working condition years ago, and had RT11 v4 to go with it.
All of it's in storage somewhere, but I haven't spotted any of it in
quite some time. When (if?) it surfaces, I'll try to remember to dig up
this thread.
