I just noticed something weird about my SOL.
From everything I can tell, it is a SOL-20.
It
has the S-100 backplane, the big power supply,
the numpad, etc. BUT, the silver serial number
label reads:
Sol Terminal Computer
Model No. 10 <<<yes, ten
------------------------
Serial No. 103476
------------------------
etc.
I wonder how this machine ended up with the wrong lid?

I think it had to do with the options that the original
kit came with.
Something like it lacked the disk controller and only had a tape
controller.
According to Processor Tech's 'Small Computer Catalog' it
suggests that the SOL-10 lacked the S-100 bus connectors and was
mainly intended to be used as a terminal vice a stand-alone system.

OK. Found it. I was in the middle of getting my first
IMSAI running at the time so I didn't read it then.
The answer is there.
Well... No consensus was reached on whether Sol-10s were
ever sold. The people who made statements as to what a
Sol-10 was (or should have been) seem to mostly agree with
what is on Jim Battle's web site:
. No numeric keypad
. No S-100 slots
. No power supply fan
. Low cost/poor quality power supply
So now we have some data points:
1) I have a Sol labeled "Model No. 10"
2) Marvin has a Sol labeled "Model No. 10"
3) There is a picture on ebay of a Sol
serial number label that looks like "Model No. 20"

My SOL, which (from what I can figure from various labels)
was manufactured in Feb-March 1978, has 'SOL Terminal Computer Model
No. 20' on it's serial number label, as well as serial#401891. Now
Lee has suggested that roughly 12,000 SOL's were made so it would
appear that the serial#'s don't reflect the actual number of machines
manufactured.

My Sol-20 has the same identical nameplate. What is interesting is that
when Bob Marsh and the guy who designed the Sol-20 talked at VCF 1 or 2,
they talked about the Sol-10. Bob said they ran the idea of the Sol-10
up the flagpole, and when nobody saluted, they ended up not making any.
Mine says:

I don't recall how the serial numbers were made up, but looking at the
two, I would guess that they started at 100000 or 100001.
