Hey all --
Finally snagged a copy of the elusive MS-DOS 2.0 for the GRiD Compass with
an 1101 I got last week. Imaged it using ImageDisk; you can grab it at:
http://yahozna.dyndns.org/computers/GRiD/
I've verified that the image boots properly on my 1129.
Awesome - I've had
an 1101 for about as long as I've been collecting
but have never loaded anything onto or off of it. I picked up a GRiD
GPIB drive (I think it was not the 1129 but it was definitely GRiD
branded and 5.25")
The 1129 is the "Compass II" which is the Compass
I currently have
that's operational (the 1101 I got needs some repair, I suspect the
power supply.). The single 5.25" drive is the 2102, the combo 5.25"
floppy + 10mb hard drive is the 2101.
from this list a couple years ago but have not
tested it. Now I have some images to write out and test. I assume
they are 360K?
Yes. I imaged them with a 360K drive (got errors on the last few tracks
using my 1.2mb drive).
I'd like to back up the software on my 1101, too, before reformatting
it with their DOS. It was loaded with what looked like an assembly
line QA utility from an auto plant. I like to use Fastlynx for this
task but IIRC (and it's been a while,) it has neither a standard
serial port nor parallel port. Any ideas what the best way to back up
the volume would be? Maybe a simple DOS backup tool that could span
floppies?
I might just use your floppy drive and copy stuff from the bubble memory
to a 5.25" disk, then archive using ImageDisk or something similar. If
you have GRiDTerm installed, you might be able to transfer files
individually if you build the right cable (the serial port on the
Compass is a DB15, carrying signals for RS232 and RS422) but I have not
tried it. I seem to recall that "CODE-J" allows specifying wildcards
for copying files but I'll have to look it up, let me know if you need
the info.
Thanks for the posting the images, too.
No problem. I also managed to read out the Lotus 1-2-3 disks mostly
successfully (they're in the same directory as the DOS image) but I
haven't gotten a chance to test them yet. In particular Track 39 of the
the 1-2-3 "System Disk" has an odd formatting that I was unable to read
-- I don't know if this is some form of copy protection or if it's
something with my system. If you do try it, let me know how it works.
(I'll have some time this weekend to play with it, maybe...)
I also read out the CCOS/GRiD OS disks (both 3.0.0 and 3.0.1). And I
found GRidBASIC! It's on the GRIDMGMT.IMD image.
