That is possible. I worked on an HP9000/835 a few
years back (not my
machine, so I can't check any details now), and I remember that one of
the 'logic' boards had to be in place for the PSU to start up. And it
wasn't just a dummy load -- we tried that.
If that's the case I'll have
to connect the PSU to the computer
to test it :-(
