I was lucky enough to find a DEC rainbow 100 in all

with all the documentation and software with the winchester 5MB HDD

then a nice VT-100 terminal. Its a darn nice machine.
That's amazing, and I'm really jealous! If you have a picture gallery to
share I'd love to see it. I don't know what the original packing looke
like.
They're not bad CP/M and DOS machines. They were dual processor, both
Z80 and 8088, so they kind of straddled the line in the early 80s PC
world.
If you're interested in the history, DEC made a documentary about the
development process (not just of the Rainbow, but the Professional 350
as well) It's light on tech details, but heavy on corporate culture and
general historical interest:

As for "use", I can't tell you. Just enjoy having it. It'd make a
pretty
good Wordstar box if you're into that kind of thing. :)
