Ten-plus years ago, I was given an opportunity to scrap a Burroughs machine of some kind. I don't think it was still running, and it was the size of a small refrigerator. I pulled the interesting chips and disassembled the open-air hard disk unit. It was covered in a clear sheet plastic frame, sealed with snaps or Velcro, and the 14" platters spun in the air like a turntable.
