Hi folks...
I have for auction on Ebay, a dual 8" floppy drive for a Xerox Model 820
desktop. The auction number is 111291934342. I don't have means of
testing this machine but it turns on and the drive motors spin. From
what I understand, this drive will only work with the 820? I do not have
the rest of the machine, sorry... Local pickups can also be arranged.

Not true--it's basically a pair of Shugart SA-801 single-sided drives
with power supply in a box with a DC-37 male plug. The conductors are
easy to rearrange to fit many PC external drive connectors of the same
flavor.
The downside is, of course, that they're single-sided. But that may not
matter to many people.

Yes, but the item was stated as an 820, not a II. Regardless, if
someone wants to install DS drives, the cable does have the head-select
line intact. One word of warning is to make certain that if you want to
re-drive the box, that the bezel is designed for Shugart drives and will
have to be modified or discarded. I've got a box here that was
re-drived using Siemens FDD-200s and the bezel wasn't even a close fit.

Thats good to know...thanks, Chuck. I dont know where I read that but, I'll
gladly stand corrected. According to a wikipedia page on the Xerox 820,
Xerox did offer single and dual sided 8" drives as well as 5.25 single and
dual. This thing is a heavy SOB for its size. Its just under 40lbs.

I don't have any Xerox gear, and I'd hate to step on anyone here who
is trying to complete a partial 820, but I'm interested in this for
use with other equipment (Z-80, S-100, PC-based media archival box).
If someone here _really_ wants it, I won't stand in the way, but I'm
interested enough to put a bid on it.
I wouldn't be able to do local pickup, and I see that the shipping
costs are non-trivial.

I looked up the model number on the box and this unit does have SSSD disks.
