If you want a really nice standalone FORTH for the PDP-11, there's
SOL-11 by Nils M. Holm. It's a bit different from standard FORTH, but
not terribly so. It is a pleasure to use; I like it very much.
I spoke with Nils about it maybe 3-4 years ago, and he is no longer
interested in maintaining it. It's interesting enough that I think it
should continue to be maintained, by someone else if necessary. In
particular, I'd love to see additional mass storage drivers written for
it, which I may tackle myself when life calms down a bit.
I've played with SOL-11. I'd like to rewrite it a bit so it can run on a machine
without EAE - there are a lot of 11/20s around with 4kW of memory. :-) -- Ian
