That's an interesting question. Don't forget, Microsoft was and
still is a key developer for the Mac. There are plenty of Word
users on the Mac. My memory is that these keys were working
in Win 3.1, but I also existed on the Mac with cloverleaf instead
of control, of course.
I've an Apple Extended Keyboard II with an overlay for the function
keys that reads "HELP CUT COPY PASTE" for F1 through F4. But I
remember using Macs of the same vintage as that keyboard using zxcv to
cut, paste, etc.
