If I'm not mistaken, isn't a DECServer 500 a terminal server? You hook a
bunch of terminals to it's serial ports, and it connects to the host(s)
via ethernet, so (a) you don't need a bunch of serial ports on each
host, (b) a terminal connected to the DECServer can connect to multiple
hosts, and (c) load balancing can be used so a user can be connected to
a machine on a cluster, based on the system load.
