-No matching printers for each system. I abandonned
printers long time ago
or it just takes up too much space.
One or two for everything here, one dec serial (LA100ro) and one
parallel (Epson LQ570).
-No books. Only one or 2 max complete reference per
system. Or then it gets
outta control.
Full books but stay with families IE: VAX, PDP-11, CPM S100 as a
set covers many varients
-No magazines.
With care and appling to specific systems or technoligies, not
complete archives of say Byte.
-Only 1 or 2 peripherals like floppy drives and
such....I dont try to get
every peripheral for each system...
Unless it fits in the box!
-Only 1 "branded monitor" model per system.
Monitors use a lotta space.
Yep same for CRTs, though I do have H19, VT125, VT320, VT340. Then
again It's DEC family skewed plus CPM so it works.
-If its a vintage system your not going to
"use/play with" : then keep very
little software for each system, only maybe an OS and a few utils, games
etc...just to "show it off"
Nope, compact it to denser media that can be recoverd to whatever is
needed. Again within a family one program runs on many.
-Get many shelves, nice ones.

-Frequent cleanings....I do major ones at least 5 times

bunch of stuff....you have to stop saying "yes but
I might use it someday"
at one point and go more like "Whats the chance I am realling gonna use

again or is this really worth keeping"?
Or trade it off for that relly important item(s).
My problem is I have three realted hobbies, Computers, hamradio and
electronics Homebrew (autoconstruct for the EU folks). They overlap and
radio/homebrew instigates the "junquebox" where all good resources are
found.

Same here, hamradio, computers, electronics, I also used to do RC car
racing, now also starting pinball restorations...
I have taught of getting a bigger house but is too many hobbies a reason for
moving it all and getting a bigger house...?who likes moving a full basment
of stuff...?I cant have more than a few "active" hobbies anyways, I just
have so much "free time"...!!!

Right up till the day the host goes down or decides the manuals
to their 1985 models are no longer necessary.
A good example is my IBM XStation 150. When I first got it, you could
search IBM support and get full setup instructions and jumper layouts.
About a year ago, IBM pulled all html pages concerning the 150 and
stashed the docs on a very obscure ftp server.
I barely have time to work, take care of my home and
give some time to my
familly. When am I gonna have the time to compact and transfer stuff? Most
of it you can download off the net somewhere when needed if you hunt and
search a bit...

Somewhat out of question, but does anyone know of any software that would
download a web site, or a portion, to a local disk? IE, I would want to be
able to archive part of a web site onto a CDrom, without having to manually
save every image and web page, and manually edit the html links, etc.
Ideally the software would understand that I was planning to burn
650 meg, or 700 meg, etc images, and would break the download into
separate directories/images.

Under Linux, use wget. It's *usually* a standard install option, if not,
install the "web utilties" and it's there.
Under winders, well... ahem... go to www.cygwin.com & download the cygwin
utilities - this gives you a *lot* of *nix utils on a Win32 system - and
then, use wget. ;-)
I *love* being able to start a bash shell on Win2K, and grep has always
been my buddy... :-)

wget does a great job, and IIRC "mirror" does too. Linux/GNU/*BSD
tools. I dunno about Windows or Mac.

I would ask you to make sure that bulk downloading of someone else's
site is allowed before attempting this. Some people's websites are on
restricted bandwidth (David Gesswein's pdp8.net springs to mind), or
there may be other reasons why the owner requests that people do not do
this. The prohibition may not be in plain text -- there may be a file
called robots.txt which records the names of agents and areas of the
website that are out of bounds to robots. wget respects these
restrictions (unless hacked), but there are agents that do not.
Secondly, this is for your own use, right? I ask as someone who has had
their site downloaded and distributed to a third party to put on their
site!

I *own* an ISP, and I thought I was "smokin'" with dual T1's!
And for now, I have only modem access to the 'net as well, but when I move
into my new house, I'll have access to wireless ethernet - should average
me about 600kbit/sec up & down... :-) Sometimes more, sometimes not, but
it's always decently fast & it's not like satellite tech. - the latency is
*very* low.
Someday, when I have more time to tinker with VMS, I'll have one on the net
with logons for people to play with... (hell, had to bring it on topic
somehow...)

I *own* an ISP, and I thought I was "smokin'" with dual T1's!
University of Minnesota. We used to be quite impressive in the computer
sciences in the old days, but nowadays, well, everyone is impressive
what with the price of hardware these days... I still miss all the
big CDC mainframes though.
The last real impressive software we developed was Gopher. I can still
remember when any sane person had realized Gopher was dead, I asked
why they were still holding these yearly Gopher conferences, and the
guys started gushing about "3D Gopher" that was going to be all the rage.
And yes it sounded as absurd to me then as it does in hindsight today.

Yes, and as we all know, adding dimensions to your software's user
interface immediately makes it more advanced and powerful. Yeah, I'm
working on creating a 4-dimensional `vi'. It's gonna be so damn cool.

As soon as I finish the new search engine, there will be an updated
Veronica-2 database to search. I also keep a listing of known gophers
up there too.
For those curious about the 3-D Gopher VR, there's a CVS tree somewhere
that's porting it to Unix. Meanwhile, Mac users can get the old test
version from
gopher://gopher.floodgap.com/1/gopher/clients/mac/
It still has a few bugs, which are now being repaired in the Unix port.
There's screenshots in that directory for those who are unenlightened^W^Wuse
other platforms.

Same here. Some thieving bugger (I used much stronger
words when I
discovered it) leeched my site and claimed the entire thing as their own. I
managed to get his account revoked and received an email (in broken english)
threatening all kinds of nasty things.
This is what I'm particularly worried will happen to Secret Weapons of
Commodore, which is part of the reason why the copy policy is so strict
(the primary reason, of course, is to give contributors their due).
Every so often I see a page or so from it copied on another site. Usually
the site goes down for some other reason, fortunately.

Is there any way to check a CD? Also, how often do you recommend making
a new copy? Also, can CD software duplicate (make an exact copy of a) CDs?
And can anyone suggest a way to do the following on a W98 (Yeck) system:
I want to set up some files in both ISO file structure (available under DOS/W95/W98)
and under RT-11 as an RT-11 partition. Is there a way to copy the files to a specific
block on the CD?
