Q: How many PDP-8s are you going to see at VCFSE?
A: You'll have to come and see.? (But it'll probably be
at least 3.)
Come to Atlanta May 3rd and 4th and see the PDP-8s
and many other interesting systems.? We're looking
forward to seeing you all there.

I'll have my PDP-8/M (and maybe a PDP-8/E too) showing off my SerialDisk
software, for those interested. It currently emulates an RK05 via an
auxiliary teletype interface. It will be available for people to program
BASIC, FOCAL, etc. on. I may even be adventurous enough to connect it to a
green-bar printer and let people generate some ASCII artwork.
It'll be a great show!

talked with you about this at length.

Has anyone tried it with Philipp Hachtmann's OmniUSB? Sounds like a prime candidate
for that, since it pretends to be a (very, very fast) serial port.

That's what my 8/M was running with, yes. thanks to the one and only Jack
Rubin! It is very fast, but still slightly slower than a real RK05.
Although, I imagine if you're seeking back and forth across the disk,
SerialDisk may end up catching up. Either way, it's certainly very usable,
even at 38400, which was what David was using.

David Gesswein is now the official northeast master of SerialDisk; he got
it running in one night after leaving his RX01 at home. He pointed out that
FRTS doesn't disable the aux TTY interrupt, so this needs to be added in my
software. I made a bug report of this already; just need to take a breath
and add that instruction in.
