Pierre, When this auction started, I was tempted to bid a low amount, just to make sure it won't get scrapped, but I didn't expect the price to go *that* high. Then, another member of this list placed a bid, so I refrained anyway. I am not sure if this is a case of two customers pushing each other up by trying to outbid. The winner appears to me to be a reseller. A few months ago, my company had to replace a RD54 that is still in production use in a MicroVAX II. We bought a (tested) one for something like 800 EUR, IIRC. So, this auction may still be a good deal for the reseller.
