IIRC all of the black apples I saw were IIs and II+s. I think a black IIe would be rare. The audio box on the back was used in a classroom setting to hook each operator to the teacher in an audio network. B&H was a big vendor into the A/V and classroom solution market. Paxton Astoria, OR
