and it would not be too hard to see. Plus 3/4 inch of wire is

Actually, if you take a blown fuse apart, i.e. remove the metal caps from the
ends, you'll see that there's a hole through which the fuse wire is passed
before soldering it in place. You could do the same thing. I'd recommend
some finer wire than #30, however.
