Hi.
Just received one ONTEL (not Intel) 8" floppy disc drives cabinet from the
UK.
* Reasonable good external aspect.
* The drives appear to be Shugart.
* The power supply has good aspect in a first visual inspection.
* The fuse in the cabinet rear and the fuse cover are lost. I must check for
one valid cover.
The most interesting thing is the output interface. Every disc unit plugs in
a circuit in the cabinet rear. The circuit have the holes needed to put the
usual 50-pin interface. BUT the interface really installed is one similar to
parallel or DB25.
Sure that I can try to install the 50-pin interface. And I shall do more
investigations, but any help in all these aspects would be welcome.

The DB25 connecotr is used for many things... I have a machine with an
external 8" disk unit where the interface between the machine and disk
bnx is a pair of DB25w. Yes, you guessed it, the normal 50 wya ribbon
vable is split in half, one half gors to each DB25.
In your case, how mauch electronics is on the rear PCB? Any big chips?
WOuld it be possible to trace out a schematic?

Hi.

Do you mean that it was made in the UK, but later used in the States, or
that you have just had one shipped from the UK?
The reason I ask is that most 8" drives have mains spindle motors, the
speed of which depends on the mains _frequency_. If the unit was last
used in the UK (50Hzx mains) and you're running it off 60Hz mains, you'll
need to replace motor pulleys, etc.
