Does anybody know if it's possible to run an 11/70 without the MK11 memory box ?
I know it can be done with the PEP "update", but I was wondering if there is
another way, possibly involving standard UNIBUS memory.

Not any way that's compatible with standard software.
IIRC, it's possible to configure the machine so that more than just the
I/O page is out on Unibus, and so that the Unibus map doesn't respond
to those addresses from the Unibus side. But AFAIK there is no support
in any operating systems (DEC, Unix, etc.) for such a configuration.
I'll be using the PEP-70 memory in all of mine.
