Many modern machines will take an MDA or CGA card

All the clone systems I have ever built or worked on supported MDA/CGA in
BIOS, and also took 8-bit cards. I even had an MDA running in a Tandy
1000TX with CGA onboard. No hitches there, but that machine isn't exactly
one of "today's" systems. I'd be skeptical of any of the newer
proprietary
systems, PB, Comaq, Dell, AST all spring to mind.
Out of curiousity I tried a Hercules in a Dell 325SX that has onboard Paradise
VGA and no problems....
Don't you
just tell it it has no hard drive installed, and rely on the
BIOS extension on the 8 bit hard disk controller?
Talking Sony CD-ROM here. I don't think those little 8-bit proprietary
cards were even BIOS driven.
I don't think they were....
