In some cases it's possible to remove the scratch by polishing the CD. I've taken badly scratched CD's and removed the scratches with a buffing wheel, jewelers rouge, and a little patience. Just be careful not too overheat the CD or it may warp. The ones that I've done came out paper thin but, were readable.
