Actually, it was a defunct, bankrupt shopping mall in
a southwest suburb,
standing in for a non-existent shopping mall in the northwest suburb of
Park Ridge.[1]
At least, that's what we all knew in Chicago when the movie came out.
Some (a very little) of the street scenes are actually Park Ridge.
