The ebay mention is "It has wiring, some is
asbestos, most is plastic". As I
mentioned in an earlier message, I really think it's just a misunderstanding
about fabric-covered wire. I have IBM plugboard wires in both plastic and
fabric-covered form.
I agree. Asbestos insulated wire is probably the most difficult wire
to work with, and in the old days the manufacturers avoided it at all
costs unless they had to use it. Stripping the insulation off is a
real chore, even in a production environment, as the asbestos chews up
all the tooling and leaves everything dull.
