But you're already using 2 - 4 bytes in the inode
to track this type!
I.e., '.' followed by 1 - 3 (or more) characters of extension.
Nitpick: as far as I know, all fielsystems that use inodes keep names
in directory entries, not in the inodes themselves. That is, files
don't have names; rather, names have files.
