I see this more than I'd care to. A lot of disks that are only 20 years
old are developing binder failures. This is first cousin to the
infamous "sticky shed" problem talked about in the audio tape forums.
Some brands are worse than others.
The solution is the same for old disks--bake them at about 140F/58C for
several hours. The same goes for flaky tapes.
Clean your drive heads, and try some known-good media.
