what HIPPI cables are?
HIPPI (HIgh Performance Parallel Interface) is a high-speed
interconnect found on many supercomputers. It is most often used for
storage, but can also be used for point-to-point networking. In the
latter application, TCP/IP is usually used, often with insanely high
MTU values for very impressive transfer rates.
The first iteration of the standard runs at 800Mbps, but current
HIPPI (called "GSN", for Gigabyte System Network) run at 6.4Gbps.
These are full-duplex speeds, 6.4Gbps in each direction.
