Jim, my reason for asking for this is that an ftp site associated
with the list might give the content a bit more of a chance to be
there when you or I next need it.
I suspect for *most* cases there's a more appropriate place for the content
though, i.e. with one of the specific-interest websites where (like
classiccmp) it's unlikely to just vanish - but if anything it's 'safer'
there
because it will be less likely to get lost in the noise.
I think it'd be nice if a classiccmp FTP server was just for "temporary stuff
that doesn't fit anywhere else" - rather than a permanent home, as permanent
homes probably already exist in most situations. (but does that imply that
it'd be useful for classiccmp to act as some kind of search engine / registry
for niche sites* out on the 'net?)
* some of which would probably still be classiccmp-hosted, I suppose.
