A little clarification:
HP Portable (HP110): Model 45710A, 80x16 screen.
HP Portable Plus (HP110 Plus): Model 45711A, very similar indeed but with
80x25 screen, expandable RAM & ROM and a faster (now optional) modem.
Strictly the modem was optional o nthe HP110 too, in that (at least) the
UK model didn't ahve it But since this involved omitting some chips from
the I/O PCB (and IIRC soldering jumper wires between some of the unused
holes), the modem could not be fitted later.
In the Portable Plus, the mdoem was a separate board, it could be fitted
after production. I think the configuration EPROM had to be rewritten, I
can check.
