A little Google searching turned up this:
http://datamath.org/Sci/MAJESTIC/Programmer.htm
Which indicates a TI BP8 rechargeable battery pack, producing 9V:
The article reads:
" BP8 TI-30 family
The BP8 was introduced together with the BP7 and fits a whole line of
calculators including the SR-40, TI-30 and Business Analyst. It uses two
AA-sized NiCd battery and converts it with an integrated circuit (IC) to
9V."
It's bene many years since I saw one of those battery packs, but I ssem
to remember soem of the cheaper TI calculators were sold with a simple
plastic battery cover and you simply connected a normal 9V battery to the
clip leads (you know, a PP3, 006P, whatever you call it). The
recharageable pack was avaialble as an option, it had press stud teminals
to conenct to the 9V battery clip and fitted in place of the battery cover.
Yes, it cotnaiend a couple of AA NICd cells and a little PCB. I didn't
think it used an IC thought. I remember a little transformer and a couple
of discrete transistors.
