possibly fix/replace it?
Are there any
pins coming out the side of the CRT neck [...]
There are no pins or connections
coming out of the side of the neck
of the CRT.
There are a total of six pins used on the CRT.
Clearly, two of these are for the heater supply. If
it's magnetic
deflection, via the coils on the neck of the CRT, what would the
other four connections at the end of the CRT be?
Well, a 3RP1 (a 'scope tube I have an example of) is a 12-pin tube.
Two of them are documented "Internal Connection - Do Not Use". The
others are:
- Heater (two pins)
- Cathode
- Grid #1
- Anode #1
- Grid #2 & Anode #2
- Deflection electrodes (four pins)
(I'm not sure, but I think grid #1 is intended to be used for
brightness control and anode #1 for focusing.)
So I'd hazard a guess that three of your mystery four pins are cathode,
acceleration/brightness, and focus. The fourth might be unused (though
you said "used", so probably not) or might be something else, maybe
more acceleration or focus.
I suppose there's no reason a CRT _couldn't_ use a filament instead of
a heather-and-cathode, but I'd be surprised.
