A classic
rotary dial landline has much better sound quality.
And offered a full-duplex audio
path. The conversational experience
on a cell phone (or even a lot of IP telephony platforms) is horrid.
Actually, cell phones from the era when they were just cell phones, not
palmtop computers with cellphones glued onto the side, are usually
pretty good. It's one reason I stick with my Nokia 5190.
But, yes, far too many of the smartphone generation put the engineering
into the palmtop computer and treat the phone as, more or less, an
afterthought. And, of course, it shows.
