I do seem to recall in the very early days that some
brands of floppy had
bad batches, but if you stuck with Dysan or Elephant, anything you could
originally format, remained good.
Elephant disks were great. I still have a bunch of them,
formatted for various platforms, and have never had a problem with
them.
