Well, I'm sure that there are kernels of truth everywhere, but I'd like to at
least point out that Scheme, being very small and simple, is easily embeddable as a
scripting language. As with most scripting languages (Lua comes to mind), you often make
a trade-off between execution time and code size; TinyScheme, for example, may not be the
fastest thing out there, but it compiles down to a few K (maybe tens of K, I don't
quite recall), which is great if you're running on embedded devices. It sees quite a
bit of real-world use in that aspect.
