I went to Radio Shack last night to buy a fuse for my

I needed a 125v 2amp fuse. Most of the fuses I saw were rated at
250v. I bought a 250v .75amp fuse, thinking that if I up the voltage
I have to lower the amperage. The new fuse blows instantly. Am I
thinking about this incorrectly?
Yes. The voltage of the fuse is only the maximum
it can "switch" off
savely. i.e. You can use a 250 V fuse in a 110 V circuit but not vice
versa. A 125 V fuse may not cut the circuit completely (arcing etc.) in
a 250 V circuit. You have to get the same ampere rating and
characteristic (Slow, Medium, Fast) regardless of voltage.
