Yes, ... AND ... the "nasty plastic thingies" (DIN41612 connectors) are denser,
gas-tight, and an order of magnitude more reliable than edge connectors.

I've always thought that card edge connectors look awfully cheap compared to
nasty plastic thingies. Plastic thingies are a lot more classy.
