Oh, for those that haven't noticed, and who may find some of the
DEC-20 terms in Alice's PDP-10 confusing, Rob did a glossary and
some background info:

John Wilson <wilson at dbit.com> writes:
I don't
know the song, though, as I am violently averse to folk music.
Is Alice's PDP-10 a homage/parody/something of the (?) Arlo Guthrie
piece?
Exactly. And I despise folk music too but I *love* Alice's Restaurant.
It's mostly a political shaggy-dog story with only one verse of singing
along with the git-tar. Might be an exception to your rule too.
2-3 years ago, some friends of mine got married in the former
church in Stockbridge, Massachusetts that figures in the song. Guthrie
bought the place in the early 90s and turned it into a music and events
venue and community center. It turns out that while there's some comic
exaggeration, the song is basically true.

I find it astonishingly surreal and somewhat poignant that the most
well-known thing that officer Obie did with his entire life is spend two
hours going through a pile of garbage to find evidence of who was
littering in his tiny town in Massachusetts. That and posing for a
Norman Rockwell sketch will be the only things he is ever remembered for.
Even now, over forty years after its release, the whole 18-minute song
gets played on a few US radio stations around Thanksgiving.
