The AS/400 is a direct descendent of the S/38. The
S/38 was designed
and built by the people who brought you the S/36, S/34, and earlier
machines.
JOOI, is there anything significant in the even model numbering? (e.g. I don't
think I've ever heard of a S/35, S/37... were there architectural reasons for
the numbering, or was it something like "the odd numbers are development
versions of the subsequent even-numbered machines"?)
