i have been thinking of running a good dos
machine or finding one. i find
that each machine is different from the hardware to the way it runs the
software. some have the use of a hard drive and some don't i have thought
of wanting a sorta high end dos machine one that has the use of a hard
drive and can run any program that dos can run and not have issues.
Probably the
360/H40 (Model 40 with 128K core). Add 2 selector channels.
Without disks, you would of course be running TOS instead, but the JCL and
data management services are the same, so lumping them together is
understandable.
A larger model (50, 65, 75) would almost certainly use OS/360, although a
smaller 50 might be run with the MFT version so very much like DOS.

If you really insist on DOS and want to run it, use the vm370 turnkey 6
pack system. ONe of the OS's that is supported is DOS.
Rich can let us know how that 360/40 project goes. H seems a bit much,
didn't it run in a lot less core?
