Remember that magnetic fields are a inverse-square
sort of thing, so
Is it? I thought a dipole field fell off as 1/R^3. Anyway, it falls off
pretty fast. I don;t think I've ever damaged a magnetic recording by
accidentally subjeting it to a mangentic field. I once tried rubbing a
floppy disk across the grill of a medium-sized loudspekaer unit, in front
of the bass drive unit. No damage to the data on the floppy at all. (Of
coruse I did with a disk I had a backup of :-)).
wrapping about a half-inch of bubble wrap around the
bundle before
you stick it into a box will do wonders.
Indeed...
Somewhere I have a report from 3M on the robustness of magnetic
recordings on their 9-track tape. I seem to recall they would stand up to
quite a lot...
