When I worked as a jr. IBM operator in the 50s there was a card-punch room
that had a bank of about 20 of these staffed by young women. When a bad
card had to be duplicated sometimes, shredded in the sorter usually, we
would take them to the "girls" and engage at the usual banter. I think
occasionally we wanted jammed cards just to take them in.
Ordinarily they were entering data on cards all day. Pretty boring.

A very neat machine. John Lawson helped me clean it up a bit over the
weekend and we got it to do "stuff" but it's still not printing or
punching so it definitely needs some more TLC.
Look for it to be operational by and on display at VCF 5.0 this September
(dates to be announced very, very soon).
