So that a dead battery could never give a "correct exposure" indication?
That's the normally-given reason, sure, but I don't really believe it.
Any photogrrpaher who sees the needle is escactly on the 'correct
exposure' mark is going to twidle the conttols just to make sure. And
equally, he'll move the camera about a bit to take reading from different
parts of the subject.
No, I think this is a cover-up for a bit of misdesign...
