I think the inquisitive nature of cats very much suits my personality

Yeah, getting clawed by Ze Cat is one of the downsides. My aunt had a really nice black (or really dark brown, not sure)
long-haired cat
called "Momom" (where she got that name I don't know). It'd wait for
you
to sit down, then meow at you until you lifted it onto the seat beside
you. Then it shuffled up and laid half-on your leg and started purring.
If you tried to move it off you or stand up? You got the claws...
That sounds entirely reasonable...
