My recollection is that PDP-8 bootstraps emulate a front-panel. They
aren't memory mapped, so you don't inhibit existing memory.
You are right, at least about the most common one. I don't know about
the rope ROM and third party cards, but I guess I can probably ignore
that, at least for now.
