Asking for a friend...
Is it possible to still get new BOT markers? If so, does anyone know a
source? Can markers from Audio tapes be used?
Also, does anyone have a list of common error codes from 9-Track tape drives?

The only requirement I ever saw for these is that they stay in place,
and that they be reflective. I never found any tape drive that used the
fact that they be metallic to work.
The tape is stopped as quickly as the servo can stop at either marker,
and the markers should stay on regardless of the speed the tape is
moving. And it should not ooze anything that will foul the tape as it
is on the reel, so no adhesives that bleed out.
Al has probably seen more than most here, and could comment on what
might be bad choices from a material standpoint. However it is hard to
know what vendor made the ones on the tape if they are replacements.
3-M had the most common if you can find them.
