I think the die was cast from the moment the committee
decided that the
purpose of a standards committe was to invent language rather than to
certify certain current practices.
That is valuable info I think is missing from common knowledge. Thanks for
posting it.
Even today, I can't stand to look at Fortran 90 or
anything later. I can
manage FORTRAN 77 because it tolerates FORTRAN 66 syntax.
I thought I was alone in that.
They took my simple homespun darling and turned her
into a harlot.
